The first ever Lormar Adventure Tour was a huge success and great fun!
The Tour kicked off with a sundowner tractor drive to the highest mountain on the farm followed by delicious lamb potjie and freshly baked farm bread! It soon felt like we all were long time friends and this were just the start to a great Karoo weekend of biking!
Day 1 turned out to be a perfect Karoo day and this day’s routes took riders through various farms throughout the district along district roads, jeep track and a few technical jeep track sections. Riders had a quick break in Middelburg to fuel up with coffee & rusks at the local coffee shop and deli, Picadilli’s followed by a 70km route towards Nieu-Bethesda through a nature reserve. Nieu-Bethesda welcomed us with sheep grazing across the main road and streets lined with trees in blossom. By this time everyone was looking forward to a cold one and that’s exactly what was included in the day’s schedule, a visit to the local brewery! Riders enjoyed beers like the Karoo Ale, Honey Ale & Donker Bier along with freshly prepared ham and cheese platters. An 80km ride pass Compasberg back to Fairview Guest farm was on the cards.
Late afternoon we took riders to their dinner in the veld experience. Dinner included lots of meaty starters followed by some more tjoppies, soet patats and marshmallows in the fire for desert. By this time the sun has set and we were welcomed by the open clear night skies of the Karoo.
Day 2 woke riders up with farm noises of chickens, turkeys and horses letting them know to get on the road and have a quick breakfast before we head on our journey towards Graaff-Reinet. These routes consisted of district & jeep roads through various farms all the way to Graaff-Reinet but you can’t visit Graaff-Reinet without a stop at Valley of Desolation! Riders made their way up to the highest point where we offered each a refreshment to enjoy the beautiful Karoo view. Our final destination were in town at Drostdy Hotel where delicious brunch were served!
Thank you to everyone that attended the 2016 Lormar Adventure Tour! Keep an eye out as we’ll soon be revealing the 2017 Tour dates…!
